# Use Super Magic in the Slack Companion App

> Chat with Super Magic from Slack: DM the Thread app or @mention it in a channel, get ticket-aware answers, and approve write actions without leaving Slack.

<Note>
  **Limited release.** Super Magic in the Slack Companion App is available to a limited set of
  partners and is enabled per workspace. Ask your Customer Success contact if you want it turned
  on for your workspace.
</Note>

Super Magic — the same AI assistant you use in [Thread Inbox](/super-magic/meet-super-magic-your-ai-assistant-in-the-inbox) — can answer you directly in Slack through the [Slack Companion App](/companion-apps/install-the-slack-companion-app). Ask about tickets, clients, or anything else your workspace knows, right from the channels where your team already works.

It acts as **you**: it uses your own Thread member permissions and your workspace's Super Magic access settings, exactly as in the Inbox.

## Before you start

| Requirement | Details |
| - | - |
| Slack Companion App | Installed in your own Slack workspace. See [Install the Slack Companion App](/companion-apps/install-the-slack-companion-app). |
| Super Magic enabled | Your admin has Super Magic turned on for the workspace. See the [Super Magic admin guide](/super-magic/super-magic-admin-guide-setup-access-safety). |
| Limited release access | Enabled per workspace — ask your Customer Success contact. |
| Linked member account | Your Slack account must be linked to your Thread member account. Super Magic doesn't respond to Slack users who aren't Thread members. |

## Where you can talk to Super Magic

* **Direct message**: open a DM with the Thread app and just type your question.
* **In a channel**: @mention the Thread app in any channel it has been added to. The Thread app must be a member of the channel to see the mention.

## Ticket context comes along automatically

When you ask Super Magic inside a Slack thread that's tied to a ticket (for example, a ticket thread the Companion App posted to one of your routing channels) it already knows which ticket you're talking about. No need to paste a ticket number: *"summarize this ticket"* or *"log 15 minutes on this"* just works.

## Approving write actions

Reads never change anything. When you ask for a change (updating a ticket, adding a note, logging time) Super Magic posts a confirmation with **Approve** and **Cancel** buttons:

* **Approve** runs the action, and the card updates to show it was approved.
* **Cancel** stops it, and Super Magic confirms it won't run the action.
* An approval belongs to the conversation that produced it. If the conversation has moved on, the card shows **Expired**: ask again if you still want the action.

## Managing conversations

Each Slack thread holds its own Super Magic conversation, so context doesn't bleed between topics.

To start over in the same thread or DM, send **new chat** or **reset**. Super Magic drops the previous context and replies "Started a new chat. What can I help with?"

## Troubleshooting

* **"Super Magic is not enabled for your company yet."**: your workspace has the Companion App but Super Magic itself is switched off. An admin can turn it on; see the [Super Magic admin guide](/super-magic/super-magic-admin-guide-setup-access-safety).
* **No response to an @mention**: check the Thread app is a member of the channel, and that your Slack account is linked to your Thread member account.
* **An old Approve button shows "Expired"**: the approval was superseded by newer messages in that conversation. Ask Super Magic for the action again.
