# Set your availability for auto-dispatch

> Use the Available for dispatch toggle in Inbox to control whether auto-dispatch can assign new threads to you, and see your presence at a glance.

<Note>
  The **Available for dispatch** control appears only when your workspace runs **Auto-assign** (push) dispatch and you're on at least one dispatch team. **Auto-assign** is rolling out to partners — contact your Thread representative to enable it. Members on **Next thread** (pull) dispatch — where techs request the next thread themselves — don't see the control.
</Note>

When Auto-assign is enabled for your workspace, Thread uses each member's availability to decide who can receive push-assigned threads. You set your own availability directly from your Inbox account menu — no admin action required.

Availability is tracked **per dispatch team**. If you're on more than one dispatch team, you can be available for one and offline for another.

## How it works

* **Available** — Auto-dispatch can push new threads to you for that team. A **green dot** appears on your avatar in the left rail and in the account menu.
* **Offline** — Auto-dispatch skips you for that team. A **grey dot** appears on your avatar.

The presence dot shows green whenever you're available for **any** of your dispatch teams. Your availability is stored on the server, so it follows you across devices and sessions, and Inbox refreshes it periodically in the background.

<Info>
  If an admin has **excluded** you from a team's auto-dispatch, that team's toggle is disabled and shows an "Excluded from auto-dispatch" tooltip — you can't make yourself available there until the exclusion is removed.
</Info>

<Tip>
  Admins and team admins can flip this toggle **on your behalf** from a team's Team Home page — for example when they're staffing up a queue and you're already logged out. Changes made there sync back to your account menu on the next refresh. See [Team Home for Auto-dispatch](/inbox/team-home).
</Tip>

## Toggle your availability

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the account menu">
    In Inbox, select your avatar in the bottom-left of the rail to open the account menu.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find the Available for dispatch control">
    At the top of the menu, next to your name and avatar, find **Available for dispatch**. On a single dispatch team it's a switch. On more than one team it's a row with a chevron (›) — hover it to open a popover with a switch for each team.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Toggle your availability">
    Toggle a team **on** to start receiving auto-dispatched threads for it, or **off** to stop.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The presence dot on your avatar updates immediately, and a toast confirms the change (naming the team when you're on more than one). If the change can't be saved, the toggle reverts and you'll see an error toast — try again in a moment.

## When to use it

* Turn it **on** when you're at your desk and ready to take on new work through auto-dispatch.
* Turn it **off** when you step away, go into a focus block, start a meeting, or head out for the day.

<Tip>
  Availability only affects **push** auto-dispatch (threads pushed to you automatically). You can still pull the next thread manually from the rail regardless of your availability.
</Tip>

<Note>
  See **Auto-Dispatch** updates in the [changelog](/changelog/q3-2026).
