# Install the Thread for Autotask Chrome extension

> Install the Thread for Autotask Chrome extension to expand the Thread Insights panel inside the Autotask ticket screen.

The Thread for Autotask Chrome extension expands the Thread Insights panel inside the Autotask ticket screen so technicians get more room to chat, run TimePad, and use snippets and @mentions without squeezing into Autotask's default Insights area.

The extension only enhances the display of insights that already exist in the ticket, so Thread Insights must be enabled in Autotask first.

## Prerequisites

* The Autotask integration is set up in Thread. See [Set up the Autotask PSA ticketing integration](/integrations/creating-a-autotask-api-user).
* Thread chat and TimePad insights are enabled on your ticket categories. See [Enable Thread chat and TimePad insights in Autotask](/integrations/how-to-enable-chat-and-timepad-insights-in-autotask).
* Google Chrome.

## Install the extension

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Chrome Web Store listing.">
    Go to [Thread for AutoTask on the Chrome Web Store](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/thread-for-autotask/ncamhnneoafmdfpamikpimckmihdfigg).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add it to Chrome.">
    Click **Add to Chrome**, then confirm the permissions in the browser prompt.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open an Autotask ticket.">
    Open any ticket in Autotask that has Thread Insights enabled on its category. The Thread Insights area on the ticket now uses the expanded layout provided by the extension.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Updates

Chrome updates installed extensions automatically. When a new version of Thread for Autotask is published, Chrome picks it up on its normal update cycle. To force an update, open `chrome://extensions`, enable **Developer mode**, and click **Update**.

## Troubleshooting

* **The Insights area looks the same as before.** The extension only changes how insights are rendered; it does not enable them. Confirm insights are enabled on the ticket category following [Enable Thread chat and TimePad insights in Autotask](/integrations/how-to-enable-chat-and-timepad-insights-in-autotask).
* **The extension isn't loading on Autotask pages.** Check that the extension is enabled at `chrome://extensions` and that you granted it permission to run on your Autotask domain.
