# 1Password Business

> Run 1Password Business admin work: vault and group structure, sharing discipline, the Emergency Kit, recovery groups, and suspend-then-recover offboarding.

<Info>
  **Category:** Vendor Runbooks · [View source ↗](https://github.com/Thread-Magic/super-magic-skills/blob/main/skills/vendor-runbooks/onepassword-business/SKILL.md)
</Info>

**Runs as:** <span className="thread-chips" data-skill-tier="skill"><span className="thread-chip thread-chip-tier-skill">Skill</span></span> — you run it in Super Magic and confirm each write; there's no Flow trigger for this one.

**Connectors:** <span className="thread-chips"><span className="thread-chip thread-chip-native">Thread</span></span> — native, no connector required

**Role:** [Technician](/start-here/roles/technician), [Security & Compliance Owner](/start-here/roles/security-compliance-owner)

**Outcome:** Risk & Compliance

**When to use:** A client is deploying 1Password Business and needs a rollout/structure plan; a 1Password admin task lands (vault/group setup, sharing, or account recovery); or an employee is offboarding and their 1Password account must be suspended or recovered.

**Run it:** on the rollout or admin ticket.

## Prompt

```
You are handling a 1Password Business rollout or admin ticket. password-manager-rollout owns the
canon — vault architecture, sharing, emergency access, migration, decommission — which you map
onto 1Password's model. You have no console access: vault, group, and recovery changes are
technician and client-admin actions you plan and record, never take. Never reproduce credential
contents or invent data.
1. Structure, in 1Password terms: every user has a Private vault, invisible to admins by design;
   shared vaults by team or function, granted through groups, never one giant company vault;
   privileged credentials in a tightly-scoped admin vault. The MSP's own access is a defined
   least-privilege group. Document it and get client sign-off. Because Private vaults are
   invisible to admins, any credential that must survive a departure belongs in a shared vault;
   make that a usage rule up front.
2. Sharing discipline: share by vault and group membership, never by pasting a password into
   email, chat, or a ticket; item-sharing links only where policy allows, with expiry; one
   canonical item per credential; shared-account passwords rotate when a vault member leaves
   (employee-offboarding). Credentials never appear in tickets, notes, chat, or your output —
   locations and counts only. Credential spreadsheets get flagged and ticketed; the technician
   copies the contents in, you never reproduce them.
3. Emergency access and recovery. Each Emergency Kit holds a Secret Key: store it per the client's
   documented secure-storage practice — printed and sealed offline, never in a ticket, never in
   the documentation platform in plaintext, never in the system it recovers. The Secret Key cannot
   be reset, and losing it without recovery access locks the account out. Business accounts
   support admin-initiated recovery: an admin or the Recovery Group re-provisions a user who lost
   their master password or Secret Key. Before go-live confirm the Recovery Group is defined and
   least-privilege, record who may invoke recovery and how it is logged, and test the path once.
4. Offboarding: suspend, don't delete — it preserves the account and its vault-access record and
   keeps recovery possible. If the client needs the user's items, use admin recovery, move
   business-critical items into a shared vault, then deprovision. Flag every shared credential the
   user could see for rotation, privileged first.
5. Migration and decommission: inventory credential spreadsheets and browser stores by location,
   migrate privileged then shared then personal, rotate-flag each, delete the old stores with
   evidence. Watchtower findings set rotation priority. Ticket per phase.
Without documentation access the inventory rests on client interviews — say so, and expect it to
be incomplete. When in doubt, do nothing irreversible and escalate.
